Mobile app
STARTUP | DATA VISUALIZATION |
TELE-HEALTH | GAMING INTERACTION | REHABILITATION | ANDROID APP
This is not a single project description, this is more like a journey that starts with an art direction role and continues with the UX and UI of a mobile Android application and we already don't know what will be next.
Role
This was a particular collaboration so my role changed over time and adapted to the needs of the company, the tools used included Indesign, Illustrator, Sketch, InVision and a lot of paper & pencil of course.
Before talking about how exciting was working inside a fast-growing reality and all the fun that we had together, let's start with a little overview of what is Remo and what is the purpose of Morecognition.
So… What is Remo?
Remo is a High-tech solution for effective rehabilitation for motor-impaired patients, that puts together a therapist, sensors, an app and a patient to allow the patient to continue the therapy sessions from home and track the process with the monitoring and support of the physiotherapist. A health tracker’s main draw is being able to monitor your physical state without getting off the couch.
Now that we have an idea of what I am talking about, I think it’s time to explain what this experience means to me, and why I decided to dedicate this case story to this “journey”.
So working with this startup allows me to experience a more holistic product approach, and what does that mean? that means that the word product changed its meaning, becoming more than a single solution, become a company, a business plan, a concept, a prototype, a communication strategy, a physiotherapist-patient interaction, an app, a journey... in other words, become a small universe compose by a lot of parts working and interacting together to make it happen, to make it real, and I was part of it!
Remo allows me to explore how design could be used and grow with the company adapting to different stages of business, also allows me to see in a real context how interaction design and user experience are so important in almost everything like submitting a document to find new stockholders, explain with an image product functionalities to a user without a deep digital experience, translate the business and user needs into functionalities and so on.
How to face it
Growing together
Now let's focus on what I did! My collaboration with Morecognition begins with design advisor tasks, helping them to communicate and implement the brand identity inside documents, presentations and calls for tenders, the starting point was to understand the complexity of Remo and all the components of the system and then translate all that information into illustrations and infographics to allow them to communicate easily and faster in different situations and formats.

Then the moment arrives! it was time to implement a platform that connects the sensor, therapist and Patient, and again I was there ready to make it happen! We start with the user flow and personas, analyse the constraints and the priorities, and then move to the Alfa version to begin testing in an early stage and increment the functionalities over time.
Concept
Let it simple
The user's analysis shows us that our final user doesn't have technical domain and experience with desktop and mobile devices, so was crucial to make the user flows that were guided and be careful with the amount of information that we show and the actions that we required to the patient, so in other words less information and few actions just in the right moment. The concept was to be simple, clean, guided, focus on the patient and use gamification to make it interesting and motivating for the patient.

The main functionalities for both users (Patient & Therapist) were very clear from the beginning, and we worked together with frequent reviews to find the best solutions in terms of usability and development.
Result
Multidisciplinary team with the same goal
I have to say that working with a Startup was a really good opportunity for me, I grew with them as a person and designer. Was a great opportunity to work directly with the whole team to meet people with different backgrounds who also work on the same product and see a different approach to achieve the same goal. Is not always easy to find collaborative spaces and the opportunity to closely work with the founders as part of the team. That allows me to understand the opportunities and constraints from a different point of view and find together a better solution.

Working in a start-up is great because you make your impact on the product that will be used by millions of people in the future, I hope so!
Final comments
Remo is still in development, and the work has only just begun. The next steps that I would like to implement are:
Usability Testing — further testing to discover what users think of the prototype, what pain points they have while using it, and what further features they would like to see.

I would like to explore more the idea of Introducing other gamification strategies like tasks and rewards to maintain and increase user motivation.

Enhance the user experience with illustrations and animations for the onboarding, tutorials and empty states.
